MSC Container Tracking

Use the universal tracker to find MSC container tracking. The generated container link opens MSC’s official portal, where the current cargo events can be reviewed.

MSC is preferred when the number is ambiguous. You can choose another carrier below.

Which MSC number should I use?

MSCU and MEDU are recognised container prefixes, followed by seven digits. If you have a bill of lading or booking instead, use the matching reference mode on MSC’s tracking portal rather than assuming a container search will accept it.

Format example: MSCU4829167. Examples illustrate identifiers, not live shipments.

Select container, bill of lading or booking mode

MSC supports searches by these different references. Our prefilled integration uses container mode. For a document-level search, copy your bill of lading or booking number and select that mode on MSC’s website. A booking can involve several boxes, so always check the equipment number next to an event.

Confirm the carrier for leased equipment

MSCU or MEDU can be useful owner-code clues, but the carrier on the transport document is the decisive routing information. If MSC is carrying a container with another owner prefix, change the universal selector to MSC. Do not interpret a different equipment owner as evidence that the shipment is with another line.

Gate events do not settle release requirements

Read vessel, port and equipment events separately from cargo availability. Customs release, carrier release and terminal collection requirements can involve different parties. Contact the MSC agency, forwarder or terminal through official channels for a shipment-specific pickup or release question.

One universal tool, official carrier records

You can use the same tool for other supported services. Numbers are processed in your browser; status appears on the official carrier page. Where prefill is unavailable, copy the number and enter it there. For broader reference guidance, see container & ocean freight tracking.
