HS code for Garden sprayer: 8424.41
Mechanical appliances, agricultural or horticultural sprayers, portable sprayers.
Classification of garden sprayer under HS 8424.41
The classification of garden sprayers falls under HS code 8424.41. This code is situated within Heading 8424, which covers mechanical appliances for projecting, dispersing, or spraying liquids or powders. This heading is broad, including everything from fire extinguishers to steam-blasting machines. However, the 8424.41 subheading is specifically dedicated to portable agricultural or horticultural sprayers. To qualify for this classification, the sprayer must be designed for use in a garden or farm setting and must be "portable," meaning it can be carried by the user during operation. This includes backpack-style units, hand-held pump sprayers, and shoulder-slung compression tanks. The classification is based on the mechanical nature of the device—using a pump or pressurized gas to atomize and disperse liquid—and its specific application in plant care. If the device is not portable (e.g., it is mounted on a trailer), it would move to a different subheading, making the portability factor the primary determinant for 8424.41.

Codes often confused with 8424.41
Common mistake. Garden sprayers are often confused with HS code 8424.82, which covers agricultural or horticultural appliances that are not portable. Large tank sprayers mounted on wheels or designed to be towed by a tractor fall under 8424.82. Another common misclassification is 8424.20, which covers spray guns and similar appliances. While a sprayer has a nozzle, the complete unit including the reservoir and pump mechanism is better described by 8424.41. Simple plastic trigger spray bottles used for household misting may also be classified under 3923.30 or 8424.89 depending on their complexity and intended use. Proper identification of the "portable" nature is vital for 8424.41.

How these figures are built
109 countries reported 2025 trade to UN Comtrade in HS 2022, and their own totals are used. Countries that did not report are estimated from what other countries recorded trading with them. Those estimates miss trade with other non-reporting countries, so they can be low, and a non-reporting country can rank higher than shown or be missing from the list. World totals add both and leave out trade between two non-reporting countries. Figures are in current US dollars; reported imports are mostly valued CIF and exports FOB, and exports include re-exports. The UN Comtrade links show the underlying records; they can also list a few reporters left out here (regional groups and older HS editions).
