Classification of floor lamp under HS 9405.29

Floor lamps are classified under HS code 9405.29, which pertains to electric luminaires and lighting fittings designed to stand on the floor. This code is part of Chapter 94, which encompasses furniture, bedding, and lamps. Specifically, 9405.29 is a residual category for electric lamps that are not designed for use solely with light-emitting diode (LED) light sources. The classification depends on the physical design (floor-standing) and the intended light source. These items are distinguished from ceiling or wall-mounted fixtures by their base and portable nature. The materials used for the stand, such as wood, metal, or plastic, do not change the primary classification under 9405.29, as the function as a floor-standing electric light source is the defining characteristic. This classification ensures that decorative and functional portable lighting is grouped separately from fixed building installations.

How these figures are built

109 countries reported 2025 trade to UN Comtrade in HS 2022, and their own totals are used. Countries marked * did not, so their figures add up what other countries recorded trading with them, and their exports are valued at buyers' CIF prices. Those estimates miss trade with other non-reporting countries, so they can be low, and a non-reporting country can rank higher than shown or be missing from the list. World totals add both and leave out trade between two non-reporting countries. Figures are in current US dollars; reported imports are mostly valued CIF and exports FOB, and exports include re-exports. The UN Comtrade links show the underlying records; they can also list a few reporters left out here (regional groups and older HS editions).
